Mastermind of 9/11 attacks claims torture ‘only makes me tell lies to keep my interrogators happy’

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Daily Mail >> 16th June 2009

Accused al Qaeda mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed claims interrogators tortured lies out of him, government transcripts reveal.

The terror suspect, who proudly took credit for more than two dozen other terror plots, said the torture only forced him to lie to keep his interrogators happy.

‘I make up stories,’ Mohammed said at one point in his 2007 hearing at Guantanamo Bay.

In broken English, he described an interrogation in which he was asked the location of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

‘Where is he? I don’t know,’ Mohammed said. ‘Then he torture me. Then I said, “Yes, he is in this area or this is al-Qaeda which I don’t know him.” I said “no”, they torture me.’

CIA chief believes Cheney almost wants US attacked

CIA director Leon Panetta says it’s almost as if former vice president Dick Cheney would like to see another attack on the United States to prove he is right in criticizing President Barack Obama for abandoning the “harsh interrogation” of terrorism suspects.

“I think he smells some blood in the water on the national security issue,” Panetta said in an interview published in The New Yorker magazine’s June 22 issue.

“It’s almost, a little bit, gallows politics. When you read behind it, it’s almost as if he’s wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point.”

Cheney, who was a key advocate in the Bush administration of controversial interrogation methods such as waterboarding, has become as a leading Republican critic of Obama’s ban on harsh interrogations and his plan to shut the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

In a blistering May 21 speech, Cheney said Obama’s reversal of Bush-era policies were “unwise in the extreme” that would make the American people less safe.

Video footage has emerged of the moment a 72-year-old great grandmother was tasered by a policeman in the United States.

The pictures from a camera on his car dashboard show the angry exchange between Kathryn Winkfein and the arresting officer in Austin, Texas.

She had been stopped for allegedly speeding on a notoriously dangerous section of Highway 71.

After completing the paperwork, the officer, Deputy Chris Bieze, returned to Winkfein’s truck – but when she refused to sign the ticket a confrontation followed.

Next to the busy road, she was seen refusing to have handcuffs put on her by him.

He then warned her she was about to be hit with a Taser before the actual stun incident took place.

With his cut-glass vowels, tweed jacket and collection of stately homes, he is a textbook toff.

A direct descendant of Charles II, Sir Reginald lists his recreations in Debrett’s Peerage as shooting and stalking.

He can trace his bloodline back to the Knights Templar and the Fifth Crusade, and owns 3,000 acres of prime Lincolnshire farmland.

Much of the furniture at his country home once graced Buckingham Palace – which was the family’s London pad, before they passed it on to the Queen.

This is Sir Reginald Adrian Berkeley Sheffield – a colourful old-school Baronet, who just happens to be man-of-the-people Tory leader David Cameron’s father-in-law.

Obama intel nominee involved in ‘torture’

Barack Obama’s pick for a top intelligence post at the Homeland Security Department has ties to the CIA’s ‘torture’ program, says a congressional aide. The aide who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed the case, the Associated Press reported on Thursday.

President Obama nominated Philip Mudd to be under secretary of intelligence and analysis at Homeland Security. His confirmation hearing is expected next week.

Mudd was deputy director of the Office of Terrorism Analysis at the CIA during the administration of former president George W. Bush. He had knowledge of the agency’s ‘torturous’ interrogation methods.

The Senate will have to decide if indirect involvement or knowledge of the agency’s interrogations, which included a method of simulated drowning called “waterboarding,” is enough to disqualify a candidate.

Drug Companies Using Third-World People as Guinea Pigs

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

Natural News >> Originally Published 04th June 2009

Pharmaceutical companies are increasingly turning to the practice of testing their drugs on Third World populations in order to keep costs down, according to a report by researchers from Duke University, titled Ethical and Scientific Implications of the Globalization of Clinical Research.

The practice has raised concerns over exploitation of vulnerable populations and the accuracy of research conducted in such conditions.

“We don’t want to imagine that lower-income countries are the clinical trial mill for higher-income countries,” said lead author Kevin A. Schulman.

The Duke researchers compared the prevalence of clinical drug trial “outsourcing” by looking at the locations of 300 studies published in three major medical journals in either 1995 or 2005. They found that the number of countries taking part in clinical trials had increased by more than 100 percent over the course of those 10 years.

This finding is consistent with information gathered from the FDA by researchers from the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development. Researchers found that between 1997 and 2007, the percentage of FDA-registered principal investigators based in the United States has decreased from 86 percent to 54 percent.

Tufts researcher Kenneth A. Getz said that drug companies are motivated primarily by the lower cost of conducting research in the Third World, as well as the increased ease of recruiting study participants who have never received certain drugs.

UK Police ‘arrest innocent youths for their DNA’, officer claims

London Telegraph >> Originally Published 04th June 2009

Officers are targeting children as young as 10 with the aim of placing their DNA profiles on the national database to improve their chances of solving crimes, it is claimed.

The alleged practice is also described as part of a “long-term crime prevention strategy” to dissuade youths from committing offences in the future.

The claim comes amid widespread criticism of government proposals to store DNA profiles of innocent people, including some children, on the database for up to 12 years.

Civil liberty campaigners have condemned the tactic of as “diabolical” and said it showed contempt for children’s freedom.

A Metropolitan Police officer made the claims after figures were released showing that 386 under-18s had their DNA taken and stored by police last year in Camden, north London.

The officer said: “Have we got targets for young people who have not been arrested yet? The answer is yes. But we are not just waiting outside schools to pick them up, we are acting on intelligence.

High school student who wouldn’t stop using cell phone Tasered

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette >> Originally Published 05th June 2009

At Penn Hills High School this morning, Chief Burton said, a student was walking up and down a hallway, using a cell phone. School policy permits students to have cell phones but not to use them during school except in emergencies, Chief Burton said.

A Penn Hills police officer told him to put the phone away and go to class.

“The kid refused to listen,” Chief Burton said. “The officer took him by the arm and said, ‘You have to go to the office.’ The student resisted, pushed the officer. The officer, defending himself, took out his stun gun and did a drive stun.”

Chief Burton said a drive stun involves pushing the Taser against a portion of the body and squeezing the trigger, thus immobilizing a portion of the body, such as the leg. He said this affects about a 2- or 3-inch area.

While on the floor, the student was still resisting and was placed in handcuffs, Chief Burton said. The student complained of a headache and dizziness and was taken to Forbes Regional Hospital.
